Fischer Panda launches fuel cell range

Fuel cell systems are considered a pioneering and environmentally friendly technology for a variety of applications for power supply. Fischer Panda has continuously developed and invested in this field in the past couple of years.

The Fischer Panda fuel cell unit is one of the most efficient ways of generating electricity currently available on the market.

The unit marketed by Fischer Panda at present can produce electrical power up to 500 W at 24 V DC and there are plans to introduce a larger version that will meet the electrical demands of many boats on the market today.

This fuel cell operates on propane. The liquid gas is readily available in cylinder form. Its fuel consumption is rated at 120 grams per hour at full load. The exhaust is mainly water with small amounts of CO2, giving it good environmental credentials. It comes packaged in a box with alternative enclosures for inside and outside use.

At present, the cost of materials and technologies used still make the end-customer hesitate to purchase this product. The price of the fuel cell is approx. EUR 20,000.00 incl. VAT, but with the low consumption, this cost plus the cost of fuel, over a couple of years, becomes lower than that of a comparable diesel generator or comparable fuel cells operating on other fuels. Besides that, the environmentally friendly technology makes the Fischer Panda fuel cell an interesting alternative source of power supply.

The planned new unit will have double the output of their current fuel cell, which should open up the possibilities for many larger boats. "It will produce continuous and adequate power for running lights and navigation electronics or e. g. a fridge. This means that the basic power requirements of a yacht can be met by means of an extremely quiet and low-vibration energy source. The same propane fuel which is used for the fuel cell can be purchased worldwide", said Jens Langer, Sales and Marketing Director at Fischer Panda.

Fischer Panda GmbH is based in Paderborn, Germany and is a manufacturer of diesel generators, hybrid and drive systems for mobile, marine and vehicle applications. The generators are well-known for their compact design and the extremely low sound levels while operating. The Fischer Panda team covers world-wide more than 500 technicians and salesmen in over 80 countries.

With the development of fuel cells for use in the marine sector and the planned larger unit, Fischer Panda will considerably expand and strengthen its presence in this sector
